Privacy notice
1. Who we are
ChennaiNest (“we”, “us”) helps people find rental homes in Chennai and helps owners let their properties. For the personal data described here, we decide why and how it is used (in the language of India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, we are the “Data Fiduciary”).
2. What we collect and why
| When | What | Why |
|---|---|---|
| You fill the tenant enquiry or visit request form | Name, mobile number, who will stay, number of occupants, preferred areas, BHK, budget, deposit limit, move-in date, preferred visit time, any notes you add, and the property you asked about. | To reply, match you to homes, arrange visits and record your enquiry. |
| You fill the owner form | Name, mobile number, owner type, best time to contact and property details you write. | To contact you, verify and list your property with your permission. |
| You visit this website (unless you turn analytics off) | Pages viewed, approximate location (city level), device and browser type, how you reached us, and a random identifier stored in a cookie. | To understand which pages help people and to improve the site. |
| You tap “Show latest reels” | Instagram (Meta) loads its content and may set its own cookies and receive your IP address. | To show our reels on this page. |
We do not ask for government ID numbers, bank details or payment card details on this website or in these forms. We do not sell your personal data.
3. Consent and other lawful grounds
We process your form details because you give them to us for the purpose of finding or listing a home, and we ask for your consent for contacting you by call or message. We use anonymised analytics on this website from your first visit, tell you so in a notice on the page, and let you turn it off at any time using “Analytics settings” in the footer. We will ask for your consent before we use any advertising or remarketing cookies. We may also process data where the law permits or requires it, for example to respond to a legal request or to protect ourselves in a dispute.
4. Who handles your data for us
| Provider | Role |
|---|---|
| Zoho Corporation (Zoho CRM, India data centre) | Stores form submissions and our enquiry and booking records. |
| Cloudflare | Hosts this website and our forms and delivers pages securely. |
| Google (Google Analytics) | Website statistics, only if you allow analytics. |
| Meta (Instagram) | Reels shown on this page only if you tap to load them, and our Instagram account itself. |
These providers may process data outside India as permitted by law. We may share the minimum necessary details with an owner or tenant to arrange a visit or tenancy that you asked for. We may disclose data to authorities where the law requires.
5. How long we keep it
We keep enquiry and owner records while they are useful for the purpose you gave them, and for as long as the law or a possible dispute about a booking reasonably requires. After that we delete or anonymise them. If you ask us to erase your data, we will, unless we must keep something to meet a legal duty.
6. Your rights
- Ask for a summary of the personal data we hold about you and how it is used.
- Ask us to correct or complete it, or to erase it.
- Withdraw your consent at any time. Withdrawing is as easy as giving it, and does not affect what we did before.
- Raise a grievance and get a response within a reasonable time.
- Nominate someone to exercise these rights for you if you die or become unable to.
How to ask: submit our enquiry form (or the owner form if you are an owner) and write “Data request” in the notes box, saying what you want. Use the same mobile number you gave us earlier so we can find your record. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India once it is functioning.
7. Children
Our services are for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal data of anyone under 18. If you think a child’s data has reached us, tell us and we will remove it.
8. Cookies on this website
| Cookie | Purpose | Set when |
|---|---|---|
| cn_consent_v1 (browser storage) | Remembers your analytics choice. | You tap “Got it” or turn analytics off. |
| _ga, _ga_* (Google Analytics) | Counts visits and distinguishes visitors anonymously. | You allow analytics. |
| Instagram / Meta cookies | Set by Instagram to show embedded reels. | You tap “Show latest reels”. |
We do not currently use advertising cookies or remarketing, and Google signals are switched off for our analytics. If we start advertising, we will ask for your consent first and update this notice.
9. Security
Pages and forms are served over HTTPS and records are held in access-controlled systems. No system is perfectly secure; if a personal data breach affects you we will act as the law requires.
10. Changes
If we change this notice we will update the date above. For material changes we will ask for your consent again where the law requires.
11. Contact
For privacy questions or a data request, use any of our forms as explained in section 6. We reply through the contact details you provide.
